After 40 years and 146 issues, the satirical magazine The Realist has retired after its founder pronounced that it had served its purpose of providing readers with absurdity and irreverence about social and political developments.

Paul Krassner, who founded the magazine in 1958 with 600 subscribers, published the last issue in spring 2001.
