The sight of Norman Bates frenziedly stabbing a motel guest to death in the shower has terrified generations of filmgoers.

Now Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, which starred Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh, has been voted the greatest thriller of all time.

Close behind in the parade of the best 100 films of the genre are Jaws and The Exorcist.

Hitchcock has another eight films in the list, compiled by the American Film Institute. They include North by Northwest in fourth place, The Birds at seven and Rear Window at 14....
