This is not my favourite ever book about the experience of mental illness, however by the end of it I felt a certain warmth for the writer. It became clear that much of it was written whilst the writer was in an elated mood - only towards the latter part of the book did I feel a sense of the roundedness of the person and the everyday realities of mood swings. For this reason books such as these should be compulsory reading for those working in mental health services.
