Picket lines formed across the state Monday, from the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center to the Minnesota Zoo to the steps of the State Capitol. Here is a sampling of what strikers had to say:

Rick Braunig, a Minnesota Department of Transportation aeronautics inspector, put down his picket sign on Plato Boulevard in St. Paul to eat some pepperoni pizza Monday.
