Federal regulations have made the manufacture of processed organic foods increasingly complicated. The rules apply to both the documentation and sourcing of the types and volume of ingredients required. Ingredients such as wheat flour, soybean oil and corn starch must be derived from crops that were grown in fields that used no pesticides nor herbicides. Additionally, certain ingredients must be processed without using acid hydrolysis. Current regulations also hold that all ingredients must be organic if these are available as organic.
