Silicon Graphics Inc is predicting the continued use of data-mining applications and virtual product models for the next-generation of central processing units. The company plans to develop the R12000, a MIPS processor that features improved memory bandwidth and bottleneck handling capabilities. Future plans include the creation of processors that can handle 5 gigabytes per second of bandwidth.
