Modern editorial writers have lost a sense of intention in their practice. They have become so ensnared by mundane matters that they have forgotten to concentrate on their original aims. The lack of intention is quite in evidence in the journalistic prioritization of style over substance, which means that opinions nowadays are disposable and irrelevant. Media coverage of the 1996 presidential election also exemplifies the absence of intention. Truth and falsity were ignored in favor of the script followed by each candidate.
