Despite the ongoing rebirth of Bon Carre across the street from his Mid City Chateau Louisiane, owner Jon Fels is not a happy hotelier.
"January was one of worst months in recent history," said Fels, a national hotel broker and veteran of the business. Both corporate and leisure travel are down thanks in large part to hard times.
Baton Rouge hotel occupancy dropped 1.8 percent in 2003. It may seem a relatively small number, but for the city's 70 hotels, it meant a $3.9 million drop in revenue from 2002, which was a lousy year as well.
