NO ONE could possibly claim that the BBC has, in any real sense, fulfilled its duty by leading the national debate over the crisis created by the number of asylum seekers arriving in Britain.
They have burgeoned, almost unremarked upon on its airwaves, from an annual 4,000 a decade ago to last year's 110,700.
And that, of course, is not counting the untold thousands who sneak in without being spotted.
