IN the first years of its existence, the RAHS concerned itself with what it should do. The first Annual Report of the then Australian Historical Society mentioned monthly meetings, at each of which one or two papers were read: `Bennelong Point and Fort Macquarie', `The Old Tank Stream', and `Old St Phillip's Church', this last being a lecture illustrated by `lantern views'. The Report for 1902 mentioned a paper on `Sydney windmills', including maps and engravings of many of the old mills and their surroundings.
