ALBERT EINSTEIN PUT FORTH HIS THEORY OF RELATIVITY ONE HUNDRED YEARS AGO. THERE WERE DOUBTERS, ESPECIALLY, WITH REGARD TO HIS IDEAS ABOUT TIME, BUT INGENIOUS TESTS OF THE THEORY WERE TO CONFIRM EINSTEIN'S PREDICTIONS.

IN DECEMBER OF 1923 A PIECE OF DOGGEREL appeared in Punch, poking fun at Albert Einstein's newly famous theory of relativity:

There once was a lady named Bright,

Who traveled faster than light.

She set out one day,

In a relative way,

And returned on the previous night.
