The Lancaster That Was

Barry Giberson, who lives in Holtwood, continues to collect local baseball and softball memorabilia and keeps coming up with some very interesting finds.

In the photo above, the man in the white shirt, tie and hat, at right, is Lowell Thomas, the famed radio broadcaster known to a generation of Americans for his coverage of wars and personalities. He was the man who made Lawrence of Arabia famous during World War I.

This photo was taken in 1940, soon after World War II, started in Europe.

A newspaper account told the story this way:
