The iconography of the Bronze Age Oxus Civilization revolves around a hierarchy of male deities and a female deity at the highest rank and middle-aged and younger mortals at the lower ranks. The mythological figures are commonly represented in narrative scenes carved on vases made of stone, copper, silver and gold. The figures are closely related to mythological beings found in Iranian and Elamite artifacts but may represent a shamanistic religion independent of other influences.
