As a Filipino mountaineer, Romeo "Romi" or "Garduch" Garduce is unique in many ways. One of his colleagues says he's a mountaineer who has shown that an "ordinary wage-earning man" could pursue a dream of reaching the world's tallest peaks without government support or private sponsors.
