Boston teachers voted over whelmingly yesterday in favor of their first strike in more than a decade. In a voice vote, union officials said, a majority of the approximately 2,000 teachers in attendance endorsed a one-day strike March 23. During the hour-long debate, some pushed for a longer strike. Their decision to effectively shut down schools for a day compounds Mayor Thomas M. Menino's problems with labor unions, including the Boston Police Patrolmen's Union, which is seeking a boycott of the Democratic National Convention as a sign of support of their contract issues.
