The 25th anniversary of the coining of the term green revolution was in 1993. William Gadd of the U.S. Department of Agriculture coined the term in 1968 to symbolize the quantum jump in wheat production and productivity achieved in India and Pakistan during that year and to mark the beginning of the advance in rice production triggered by the semi-dwarf, nonlodging varieties of rice bred in Taiwan and at the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines.
