Only a miracle could draw people to that canal, water that hasn't moved in years, rancid, shut off from the main river years ago. The canal has been forgotten about, like the neighborhood itself, left as a depository, a collection box of dumped appliances, cars, street-gang hits. It's the perfect ghetto miracle.
