The Missouri River buried a piece of history near Amazonia, Mo. But the steamboat Sultan, one of more than 400 ships lost during the height of the riverboat era, won't be lifted from its grave anytime soon.
Don Holland, who farmed land where the boat is buried for 40 years, said there aren't any plans to raise the sunken ship.
Former Amazonia Mayor Vince Smith raised the issue of digging up and restoring the boat in 2001 as a way to draw tourists to town. But he has since moved and nothing has come of his idea.
