One of Singapore's few plastics-related machinery manufacturers, Soon Seng Machinery and Trading Company, is being forced to set up a facility in Malaysia, writes Wira Sulaiman.
Managing Director, Steven Chia told PRA that it is moving the production of some of its lower end printing lines to a cheaper base to cut production costs.
"It is unavoidable. High rents, increasing staff salaries and a slowdown in orders are the main factors, having built up over the years, and it has reached the unbearable stage as the economic downturn hits Asia," he said.
