I'm sorry to have missed Gov. Thompson's tearful farewell while on vacation. Which isn't to say I'm sorry to see him leave.
For the last six years, the governor has been a great source of material for this column. Mainly, because of his personal style of "compassionate conservatism," which was heavy on conservatism but light on compassion.
