Robert B. Parker, Boston's brand of Raymond Chandler, is hoping that the latest television incarnation of his macho but mannerly private eye Spenser is the one that sticks.
The first installment in what Parker hopes will be a new Spenser movie franchise debuts Sunday night at 8 on cable's A&E. "Small Vices" is based on Parker's 1997 novel about the murder of a white college co-ed and the conspiracy to pin the grisly deed on a black career criminal. When Spenser is hired to investigate, he becomes the target of a creepy hit man.
