Books like "Main Street" and stories of its author's sharp tongue have left a lingering impression that Sinclair Lewis was always blaringly critical about his native Minnesota - and about almost everything else.
But a newly published Lewis diary suggests he also had a quiet, reflective side that came through in loving, lyrical observations about the home state he apparently never got out of his system.
