The Russian airplane designer, Igor Sikorsky, is well known for creating the four-engine Il'ya Muromets bomber-reconnaissance air craft in 1914, an achievement that marked the be ginning of a new era in Russian aviation. He is less well known, however, as the designer of fighters. This article is dedicated to the history, construction, and use of Sikorsky fighters during World War I.
