David May's bid to win a third straight Section 3 boys golf championship fell one stroke short Monday as the Auburn junior lost his Class A-2 crown to Watertown's Shane Dyer at Thendara Golf Club in Old Forge.

May, who was the Class A-2 defending champ and the Class A-1 winner in 2002, shot a 1-over par 73 while Dyer finished even at 72.

Fayetteville-Manlius won its second Class A-2 championship in three years with a team score of 393. Matt Lentner led the Hornets with a 73 and tied for second overall with May in the tournament.
