"Thriller" is the term we give to those volumes of guilty pleasure, pop(ular) fiction. Its genres may include mysteries, detective stories and policiers, suspense and horror fiction, spy novels, tales of combat, Westerns, fantasy and science fiction (sf)-anything but "serious" literature.
Thrillers stress plot and rapidly developing action, as opposed to narrative stream of consciousness, effects of language, character studies or the deconstruction of chronology.
