Day One
The jay with his chatter like the trees
with their gesticulations cannot communicate
except by becoming silent the times he comes up close
hoping to share breakfast
Day One: Stone
to clean this stone drop it in a pot
of boiling water over the next hour
the grease and dirt will slowly breathe out
into the water leaving underneath
a photographic image of its identifying
pocks and scratches on the metal
Day Two
Stillness eludes me the dark leaves
of the tall bay tree reflected in my mug
rippling each time the yogi
at the other end of the table stirs his tea
