GEORGE WASHINGTON would be 266 years old today, and it is interesting to note that the squire of Mount Vernon in Fairfax County, ``first in the hearts of his countrymen'' in his day, is only No. 2 among this nation's 41 presidents in modern eyes.
Or at least according to visitors to Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota. In a year-long ``poll'' at the monument where the giant busts of Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln stare out of a granite bluff, 137,610 people voted for their favorite president.
