When most people hear the name Salvation Army, a few things probably pop into their minds. Images of thrift stores, selling used clothing and household items. Bell-ringers, standing out in the cold at Christmas time.
The Salvation Army is most often recognized as a social organization. But one thing the Salvation Army is rarely recognized for is being a religious institution.
"I think it's probably 75-80 percent are a bit surprised to find that there is a doctrinal Christian church," says Maj. Carol Lemirand, one of the three Salvation Army officers in St. Joseph.
