CARIBOU - Buffy Sainte-Marie, a protest singer-songwriter from the 1960s and '70s, one of many placed on a government blacklist during the Lyndon Johnson years, will be onstage at the Caribou Performing Arts Center on Oct. 2.

After her suppression in the United States, Sainte-Marie became an even bigger star among American Indians and abroad. In this country, she performed on college campuses, reservations and concert halls. She hit the scene after graduating from college in 1962, at a time between the beatniks and the hippies.

Her "Universal Soldier" became the anthem for the peace movement...
