Russians, once Afghans' enemies, set up field hospital for residents in Kabul

Kabul, Afghanistan -- Gawking with hundreds of other Afghans at the soldiers and their camouflaged trucks, one man's jaw dropped when he was told where his new neighbors were from.
"Russia?" said Abdulghafar Sirat, 40. Now a teacher, Sirat wrote for resistance newspapers when the Soviet army held his country under a decade of war and occupation.
The Russians are back in Afghanistan, the latest in a string of international interlopers....
