Two events of the past week put the spotlight on the possibilities and the problems of casino gambling in Indian country.
The first news item was a June 18 raid on the Little Bighorn Casino, where 100 allegedly illegal slot machines were confiscated by the FBI and other law enforcement agencies.
Four days later came the second event -- the South Dakota Supreme Court's ruling that every video gambling device in the state -- with the exception of those in Deadwood and in reservation casinos -- is illegal.
