THE MOST important lesson I learnt from Alex Ferguson was that the season starts in the last 10 games. At the beginning of the season he would sit down and try to work out the best way to be in contention for everything come the run-in. That meant being top or second in the league, in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
