Hospital opens its doors -- and its heart -- to boy who had no hope

The boy in the hospital bed turned 14 last month. He has been asking Will I ever drive? Will I ever have a girfriend?

The nurses answer as best they can. Many disabled young men have girlfriends or wives. Special devices allow people in wheelchairs to drive.

On the morning of his birthday, Aug. 1, nurse Kristin Dillig asked, "If I were a magic genie and could give you anything you wanted on your birthday what would you ask for?"
