United States theatre companies should stop producing second-rate productions of Bertolt Brecht's plays. Misunderstandings of Brecht's arguments have resulted in uninspired imitative performances. Broadway productions such as 'Mother Courage' 1963 and 'The Threepenny Opera' 1990 are among the culpable. No performances can compare with Brecht's own productions. Even unlimited funds are likely to achieve comparable productions.
