Dyeing your hair may have bad consequences, but cancer probably isn't one of them, finds an analysis of 79 studies in last week's Journal of the American Medical Association. The report is the latest to address fears tied to the practice since the discovery three decades ago that permanent dyes contained gene-damaging mutagens. Manufacturers removed some suspected carcinogens from dyes in the 1970s, but some studies since then have continued to suggest cancer links.
