The use of rifles by police officers is as old as the use of shotguns. Anyone remember the .351 Winchester Self Loader? Every police museum has one of these Dillinger-era rifles. Remember the .30 MI Carbine? This surplus military arm was widely used in the 1950s and 1960s. Guess what was on the cover of the October 1963 issue of Law and Order...a Bergenfield, NJ, Police patrol officer test firing an AR- 15 back when this was a select-fire rifle.
