T. R. Reid's Nov. 19 piece on a Scotish museum's return of the Lakota Ghost Dance shirt from the Wounded Knee Massacre (1890) was a welcome change from recent accounts of the Native American repatriation issue in the print and TV media. Reid correctly reports that museums and other organizations have the right to retain items acquired legally and outside repatriation's legislative mandate. We also have the responsibility to educate the public and bring our collections and exhibits into line with the ethical standards of the day.
