A man who grew up close to Swan Lake in Waldo County is part of a team of geologic researchers that recently found the most accurate method yet discovered to determine the age of the earth's oceanic crust.

Joshua J. Schwartz, 28, is completing his doctorate in geology at the University of Wyoming, where he was co-author of the research paper outlining the discovery.

The paper is published in the latest issue of Science magazine.
