The article on RANN (Research Applied to National Needs) by Richard J. Green and Wil Lepkowski stimulated my interest and attention ("A Forgotten Model for Purposeful Science," Issues, Winter 2006). As said in the article, I became interested enough during my White House time (1970-1973) to set up an interagency committee to follow RANN's progress.
