Remembering Che The first time I went to Latin America, in the mid-1970s, I hitched a ride at one point on a Peruvian lumber truck. Each of its mud flaps carried a stenciled version of Alberto Korda's famous portrait of Che Guevara, "the heroic guerrillero.' Two years later, in Guatemala, I came across the same image woven into a pair of nylon socks that were on sale in a street market near the Mexican border.
