Here's a look at new CDs scheduled for release this week.
-- Southern soul great Irma Thomas devotes a full album to the work (old and new) of one fine composer on "My Heart's in Memphis: The Songs of Don Penn" (Rounder).
-- Bernard Allison, son of the late blues great Luther Allison, takes us "Across the Water" (Tone-Cool), his mix of funk, rock and blues produced by Jim Gaines (Santana, Steve Ray Vaughan, John Lee Hooker).
