Reports that a brigade from the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea soon will be redeploying to Iraq may be the brightest spot in an otherwise dismal strategic picture. The 37,000-odd U.S. troops in Korea long have overstayed the need and their welcome. If drawing them down will ease even modestly the repetitive deployment burden on other active Army formations, so much the better.
