A model that reconceptualizes decreased cardiac output is presented. The model uses the term altered cardiac output because increased cardiac output can also cause problems for the patient. Altered cardiac output is then broken down into specific groups of diagnoses that are amenable to nursing intervention. For example, arrhythmias are listed under altered heart rate, whereas altered LV function is listed under altered stroke volume.
