London born Raphael Wallfisch belongs to a family of distinguished musicians; his mother is cellist Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, and his father pianist Peter Wallfisch. Even so, he was eight before he discovered that the cello, rather than the violin or piano, was his instrument.
