Hype, hope and disillusionment in 1918 Recently I read in the Dayton Daily News that the descendents of the maker of the Raggedy Ann doll have hopes in the year 2002 to have her inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame. The National Toy Hall of Fame was established in 1998 in Salem, Ore., by A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village. Gilbert was the inventor of the Erector Set and the first president of the Toy Manufacturers Association. Some 26 toys are already in the hall of fame.
