NEW YORK -- The Rhythm & Blues Foundation stages an awards show unlike any other. Its annual pioneer awards honor artists who were often ripped off by greedy record executives in the old days. The awards have also become a lesson in black history and civil rights struggles. "We, as African-Americans, are always included in the Grammys and the American Music Awards," said Gladys Knight, recipient of a lifetime achievement award Thursday.
