The first Newport Rhythm & Blues Festival, spearheaded by Bonnie Raitt, has just been confirmed for Saturday, July 29. The all-day affair will take place at Newport's Fort Adams State Park, the same site used for Newport's famed folk and jazz festivals. The roster is a dream lineup for R & B connoisseurs: Raitt, Charles Brown, Ruth Brown, Steve Cropper, Solomon Burke, Sam Moore (of Sam & Dave fame), Clarence Carter, Allen Toussaint & His Orchestra, Irma Thomas, Narada Michael Walden and Clarence Fountain & the Blind Boys of Alabama.
