Sir Alec Guinness, his hound dog face and bulbous eyes at their most glowingly soulful, returns to public television tonight (WETA-Channel 26 at 9), playing a Spanish priest who at the end of his life seeks out challenges to his beliefs and emerges with his faith intact. "Monsignor Quixote," based on Graham Greene's 1983 novel, forms another chapter in the argument between the Catholic author and himself about his religion.
