Matthew Perry, 33, was raised in Ottawa, Canada, where he was a top-ranked junior tennis player. At 15 he moved to Los Angeles and became interested in acting. His first role was in the American television series Second Chance, in 1987 but international success came with his casting as the neurotic Chandler Bing in Friends eight years ago. In the intervening years Perry has been in rehab for substance abuse, and has appeared in films including The Whole Nine Yards and Fools Rush In.
