By the end of 1997, China had 524 sulfuric acid producers with a total capacity of 23.71 million t/a, including 5.16 million t/a based on smelting flue gas, 2 million t/a based on sulfur, 300 000 t/a based on phosphogypsum and the balance on pyrite.
